So Paul’s working on a little project of his own and it will eventually require artwork. This is a perfect opportunity to do some sketching and hopefully, in the end, painted pieces for his little project:

The slideshow above just shows the sort of process I went through to outline this character’s design. I initially started with a sketch, overlayed the line work to blue so that I could apply a digital sketch over it, cleaning it up and applying a green drafted background. The next step will be to apply depth to the character, shading and eventually colour.
While using various images from books (Anatomy for Fantasy Artists by Glenn Fabry), using the model’s poses to build the muscle tones and the facial structure. I used a number of images from google images to construct features such as the old man face, the way the tunic might fold and the stance of the character.
I also took pictures of my own hands for the position of the characters hands. This helped a lot. Next step, Sol-Omnipotent.
